KW Fireside Gathering 12 for Hearthstone

KW Fireside Gathering #12

Thanks to all that came out for our twelfth Fireside Gathering despite the road construction, and a very warm welcome to all newcomers! There were about 18 people in attendance which is great, but of course more are always welcome! A special thanks to my volunteer assistants for their generous help. Thank you for your patience while we determined that the mobile devices did not yet have the update to match the computer version of Hearthstone so people on mobile devices could not battle people on computers. Thanks Devin for contacting Blizzard for an official confirmation of that.

We continued to promote our new logo to go along with the name of our Hearthstone tavern: The Mana & Mettle Tavern, and provided a sheet listing 9 Tavern Quests with fun tavern-related activities to do. It is great to see that several people have already earned Tavern Quest tokens to start their collection.

Prizes for Competitive Brackets

Dispite the technical difficulties slowing things down, we did complete two competetive brackets. For this event, as an interesting twist, the decks had to contain only Basic and Classic cards. The first bracket winner Basil, was was able to pick a prize item after defeating Pantsloyers in a well-fought battle, with honourable mention to Reaper. The second bracket winner Trickyness, was was able to pick a prize item after defeating CrzyMe in a tense final battle that was enjoyed by the audience, with honourable mention to Donmy. Thanks to all who participated in this fun activity!

General Gameplay: For those that have been playing the game a while and would like to gain the Fireside Gathering cardback or just play games for fun.
Competitive Gameplay: After contemplating some alternative and fun options for the bracket that give more players a chance to win, we want to try running a double-elimination tournament with best 2 out of 3 games per match, but decks can only contain Basic and Classic cards! The two winning players will be able to pick an item of Hearthstone merchandise from the prize table.
Refreshments:There will be some snacks and drinks available for modest cash sale (please bring change and small bills). You are also welcome to bring your own, but please note this is an alcohol-free venue.

We are limiting the age of attendees to 15+, however all persons under the age of 18 are expected to act in a mature manner and MUST have the legal document provided below signed by their parent/guardian which covers all events. Printed copies will also be available at the Fireside Gathering, but are still required to be filled out and signed.
     Release and Agreement for Minors

We have prepared a handout sheet for each of the 3 groups of people as guidelines: a new player sheet, a casual play sheet, and a competitive bracket sheet. Printed copies will also be available at the Fireside Gathering.

Prizes for Arena Challenge

A prize will be awarded to the bracket winners, who will be able to pick from some official Blizzard Hearthstone merchandise we have purchased. In the future we will likely add Hearthstone t-shirts and other items. Prize choices are currently a $10-$15 value: a Blizzard hat, two large mousepads, an Arena Key bottle opener, wallet with free card pack code, large plush pillow, one glass from the WoW Brewfest Pint Glass collection, or necklace with pendant. As the gatherings grow in size, or if people want to pay a competition entry fee, we can offer larger prizes.

Remember to bring your friends! All are welcome at the events whether a brand new beginner or a seasoned player!
