KW Fireside Gathering 19 for Hearthstone

KW Fireside Gathering #19

Thanks to all that came out for our nineteenth Fireside Gathering that was also a Summer Tavern Hero Qualifier Tournament! There was 18 people in attendance, but of course more are always welcome! A special thanks to my volunteer assistants for their generous help to make our Fireside Gatherings run smoothly. Thank you for using the Challonge online bracket system so we can easily show Blizzard the details of our Spring Tavern Hero Qualifier, and I am very glad we met the minimum of 16 participants for the Tavern Hero Qualifier, thanks for your participation and support!

Prizes for Competitive Bracket

The Tavern Hero Qualifier first place was won by Cyal, who was able to defeat a tenacious PantsLoyers in the final match. Cyal can now go on to the next level of tournaments and represent our local Fireside Gathering group! The final match of the lower bracket saw Rpbalance able to defeat PantsLoyers. Both Cyal and Rpbalance were rewarded with an item choice from amongst the official Blizzard Hearthstone merchandise we had purchased as prizes. Honourable mention goes to PantsLoyers who has shown steady improvement at each tournament. Full results are viewable at the bracket registration page:

KW Fireside Gathering #19

The Mana & Mettle Tavern welcomes one and all to the upcoming KW Fireside Gathering! Meet new players and have a great time! See you there! This event will be a Summer Season Tavern Hero Qualifier now that our application has been approved by Blizzard.

**IMPORTANT** Due to new requirements to avoid public traversal of desk areas, we are no longer using the main lobby and elevator. Instead, entry will be at a different door at 121 Charles Street where you will need to use the security panel to lookup "D2L Events" and then push the phone button (between the up and down arrow buttons). This will dial a phone number that the event organizers will answer and be able to remotely open the door. You will need to immediately proceed to the stairwell and then go up to the third floor, then follow the hall for quite some distance to reach the reception table, from which you can then reach the event room. Washrooms are also located in this hall. Thank you for helping to ensure the continued use of our low cost venue by using the new method of access.

UPDATED Tavern Hero Qualifier Registration and Instruction Guide

You MUST be physically present at the event to participate. Entry fee is free as per Blizzard rules. All players in the Tavern Hero Qualifier must register their full account name on our Challonge bracket. Conquest format is required, where you use a Standard deck from 3 different Heroes, and you must use these same 3 decks throughout the entire competition. Please arrive with ample time so that all players can indicate on Challonge they are ready (Check-In), we can then do the bracket seeding (randomization), and start the competition on time at 1:30pm. Keep in mind that if you are late it is not possible to join once the bracket has commenced. After each match, the results are updated on the Challonge bracket.

The winner will be able to represent our local group at an upcoming Seasonal Tavern Hero tournament (historically in Toronto, but last one was online), and the top 8 players will be crowned Tavern Heroes. These 8 players will then join the top 64 competitors from the seasonal point standings to do battle in the Americas Seasonal Playoffs, with the top players from that event sharing in a prize pool and winning a position to compete in the Americas Seasonal Championship for glory and portion of the significant cash prize pool!

Everyone is invited to participate. We must have a minimum of 16 players in the bracket for our winner to be officially recognized, so please feel free to participate even if you don't think you have a good chance of winning. It is a fun process regardless of where you place! Blizzard official rules have a player age restriction of 13 years or older, provided that player under 18 has obtained a signed permission from their parent/guardian.

You may adjust your team name up until you Check-In.

Important! Blizzard now requires all competitors in the bracket provide their account name. As mentioned, a link to the bracket will be used by Blizzard to review before accepting our tournament winner for the next stage of competition. Therefore, please set your Challonge team name to your account name. Your account name is shown in Hearthstone when you click the Social button in the lower left corner. It is a name followed by a hash then several numbers such as: KWfireside#1709 as shown in the example screenshot below.

Overview of the Conquest Format:

* Decks cannot be modified in any manner for the duration of the entire bracket
* Within a match, after each game won the winning player must switch to a different pre-chosen hero deck they have not yet won with in that match
* The match win occurs after one player has won 3 games i.e. one game won with each of their three pre-chosen hero decks (this may require playing 3, 4, or 5 games to achieve match win)

To give players more opportunity to compete and have fun, the tournament is going to be run as a double elimination, however due to time constraints the winners of the upper and lower brackets might not battle. Instead, the winner of the upper bracket will be the Tavern Hero Qualifer winner, but both winners will be awarded their choice from the prize table of some official Blizzard Hearthstone merchandise we have purchased. Blizzard requires the winner to provide their full name, account name, and contact information (address, phone number, email) which the event organizer will submit only to Blizzard.
