KW Fireside Gathering 22 for Hearthstone

KW Fireside Gathering #22

Thanks to all that came out for our twenty-second Fireside Gathering to play the current month Fireside Brawl, and a special thanks to the two teams that participated in the Tavern vs Tavern virtual tournament run by Blizzard! There were 10 people in attendance at the KW Play Space venue, but of course more are always welcome! A special thanks to my volunteer assistants for their generous help to make our Fireside Gatherings run smoothly. Most importantly, thanks for your participation and support!

Everyone enjoyed the Goblin Cakes complete with Hearthstone swirls provided with many thanks by Nikki!

Fireside Brawl - Lich King Raid!

The current Fireside Brawl was nonother than the Lich King himself in the form of a Tavern Raid! As the Innkeeper, I set his health to an appropriate level and then everyone collectively battled him to get his health pool to defeat. There was a Fireside Brawl quest sheets that had 3 challenges to complete. Each completed Fireside Brawl quest sheet put the player name into the prize draw held at the end of the evening, so the more sheets completed, multiple times allowed, the more chances to win a prize.

Fireside Brawl Prizes and Door Prizes

The random draw from those that had completed the quest sheets resulted in a player winning their choice of prize from the large prize table featuring mostly Hearthstone items from the Blizzard store.

There were also some door prizes awarded where the winners picked their choice from the medium prize table featuring interesting locally crafted items related to Hearthstone. Items chosen were a Hero Standee, a custom glassware with etched Hearthstone logo, and a keychain featuring the Jaina hero.

Tavern vs Tavern Tournament!

Our two teams were part of a total of 66 teams from Canada and the USA across 4 time zones. Team 1 battled against "The Cave" from Fairfax, Virginia and "Hero Power Tavern" from Knoxville, Tennessee and "Actual Tavern" and were scheduled to compete with "PFG Firesides" from Detroit except that opponent forfeited. Team 2 battled against "The Forge" from Richmond, Virginia and "Stony Brook eSports" from New York, New York and "KTG Games" from Baltimore, Maryland. Each of our teams won one match against these tough competitors and the tournament was a lot of fun. As the Innkeeper, I was able to chat realtime with Blizzard and also the other Innkeepers we were facing against which added a nice dimension to the event. Unfortunately, our teams were not able to make it to the Top 16 to proceed to the next stage of the tournament in October, but we are all very proud of their efforts, and the experience was very rewarding.

Tavern vs Tavern Tournament and Lich King raid!

Uncle Uther wants you!!! The Fireside Brawl this month is a raid against non-other than the Lich King! Come join in the battle at our next Fireside Gathering (Sat Sept 9th at KW Play Space, Kitchener, 2:00pm) and collectively fight the Lich King until his defeat (if possible). Details are at

The Mana & Mettle Tavern has two teams registered for the upcoming Tavern vs Tavern tournament being run by Blizzard. Both our Team 1 and Team 2 have been approved as there was enough space available in the tournament. The link to our Tavern vs Tavern event is:

To Battle! Blizzard is running a Tavern vs Tavern tournament where local Fireside Gathering Taverns across Canada and USA will compete with the top 2 teams travelling to California (travel and accommodation covered by Blizzard) for a final live match at Blizzcon 2017!

The Tavern vs Tavern tournament bracket of 66 teams is now available on Battlefy

Blizzard has structured the tournament which will include up to 80 Tavern Teams (each team is 3 people) into three stages of competition:
* Stage 1 is a round-robin (5 groups of 16) with outcome of top 16
* Stage 2 is a single-elimination with outcome of top 2
* Stage 3 is a live grand finale match at Blizzcon 2017, also with laptop prizes awarded to all 6 players

Thanks to all who participated in the Team Tryouts that was held online the evening of Sunday August 27th for those that put their name on the signup for tryouts form.

Our teams consist of the following players:

Team 1:
  HAHA (as standby)

Team 2:
  Cyal (as standby)

Many thanks to the standby players who are doing the important job of ensuring that should, at any point in the tournament, one of the 3 members be unable to compete, the standby person will take over their spot on the team for the remainder of the tournament to avoid the team having to forfeit their chance to compete.

We welcome one and all to come out and cheer them on, meet new players, and have a great time! Another activity of this event will be the current Fireside Brawl. There will be handouts of our Fireside Brawl quest sheets which will be used to enter your name into the prize draw for each completed sheet. Please note: Your device (laptop, tablet, phone) must have location awareness enabled for Hearthstone to detect that you are present at the Mana and Mettle Tavern via cellular data plan or our free WiFi service in order to access the Fireside Brawl.

If you need to earn the Fireside Gathering cardback or just want to play casual games for fun, simply challenge someone in the Nearby Players list or the Fireside Players list if they aren't busy. We also have interesting little Tavern Quests you can work on to collect tokens which can be redeemed for a nice reward, and be sure to sign our Guest Log book!
