KW Fireside Gathering 4 for Hearthstone

KW Fireside Gathering #4

Thanks to all that came out for our fourth Fireside Gathering! There was over 30 people again in attendance which is great, but of course more are always welcome! A special thanks to my volunteer assistants for their generous help to make our Fireside Gatherings run smoothly.

A HUGE thanks to Blizzard for showing us Canadians the love and sending a nice box of Heathstone swag as part of the Love Is In the Air promotion. The items were given away by random name drawing. Congratulations to those lucky people that won an item. My apologies to anyone that arrived after the drawing (especially the delays due to elevator security which I will resolve for next KW Fireside).

Thank you to Nikki for making the delicious lemon Heathstone-themed Goblin Cupcakes for sale. They were enjoyed by many. To learn the fun reference, watch the excellent classic WoW machinma by Myndflame called Illegal Danish Super Snacks.

It was interesting to see the massive Hearthstone Trading Card collection that Fenn brought along. Thanks for sharing your collection with us!

Prizes for Competitive Bracket

For this event we had two Competitive Brackets, each one with 16 player slots, both were Wild Format with decks containing any cards. Prizes were awarded to both bracket winners. Viewing of the final matches was done using spectator mode on a wall projector in the main part of the room while the match players used a nearby room for privacy from the crowd.

The first competitive bracket winner, JBeardless, chose a decorative Hearthstone pint glass from amongst the official Blizzard Hearthstone merchandise we had purchased. The runner-up was a formidable Hsinats, with honourable mentions going to BasicFeral and P0st4l.

The second competitive bracket winner, BuzzKill, was was also able to pick a prize item after defeating RezRaider in a well-fought battle. Honourable mention goes to StevieG.

The two bracket winners faced off each other for a fun match, where both happened to pick Warrior, which led to a long battle with an Insane Amount of Armor followed by fatigue to over 10 damage. Although JBearless had the edge with 72 armor and almost full health, BuzzKill was able to outlast together with some final damage to win the game.

In the future we will likely add Hearthstone t-shirts and other items. We are checking with Blizzard about the possibility of card pack keycodes being provided by them for awarding as a prize or simply a random draw for any lucky attendee to win. Prize choices are currently a $10-$15 value: a Hearthstone mens wallet, an Arena Key bottle opener, or one glass from the Hearthstone Pint Glass collection (view large image). As the gatherings grow in size, or if people want to pay a competition entry fee, we can offer larger prizes.
